July 11, 2010 – Photo(s) of the Week: “Edmonton Canada Cup Mountain Bike Race 2010″

This weeks blog features 3 things that I feel quite passionate about. Photography, Edmonton’s River Valley and Mountain Biking.

We are very fortunate to feature a vibrant, natural and visually stunning river valley in the heart of an urban metropolis like Edmonton. It’s a setting that is ideal for many sports enthusiasts, and with its amazing network of single track trails, it is a wonderful haven for mountain biking!

It also brings me great pride to know that Edmonton is featured on the Canada Cup Mountain Bike Race Circuit. This is an honor for Edmonton to host this event since this is the only stop on the Canada Cup circuit to be featured in an urban setting, since cross country mountain biking events like this are usually held in the mountains. A big congratulations should go out to Mike Sarnecki and Evan Sherman for organizing and bringing this event to Edmonton!

So I headed out to the course today with my mountain bike to check out the event, preview the track and take some pictures, and I had a really good time. Being with the other spectators and riders brought back memories of the few events I raced in, back in the 1990s.

Being at the event was also a great opportunity for me to do more sports photography, an area that I want to explore in more detail. It was also a good opportunity to see Emily Batty ride (she’s number 99), since I heard that she will be on Team Canada in the next summer Olympics.

So I hope you enjoy the 19 PHOTOS of the Edmonton Canada Cup Mountain Bike Race! To view them all, just keep clicking on the “right/next” arrow…..

Until next week….
