August 7, 2012 – Photos of the Week: Stormy Skies

Summertime. A season renown for dramatic weather as well a sunny skies and warm hot days!

The follow images depict what happens when we have warm summer air that rises from the ground creating what is known as a low pressure system. When there is a high pressure system above the low pressure system the opposing pressure can create winds. These winds can create Cumulonimbus storm clouds, and we get dramatic and sometimes violent summer storms.

Turbulence, rain, hail and tornadoes are sometimes the result of these meteorological changes.

Scary, but beautiful. That’s what these storms are! I find them fascinating and was compelled to photograph a recent one we had this August!

Enjoy the images!
